A fun fact that is not commonly known is that France and The Netherlands are direct neighbours! They share a physical border right in the Caribbean. Another fun part about St. Martin is the fact that Creole spices have infiltrated French as well as Dutch cuisine. French wines and Dutch beer makes for excellent pairings with many of the fine meals. Infused rums further enhance idea generation. Restaurant chefs of the island combine local traditions and local ingredients with their European “savoir-faire”: a subtle blend of flavours, the “douceurs épicées”, “annatto” spice, the “christophine” or chayote squash, fish, lobsters and shellfish, reflecting the multicultural nature of the island. St. Martin’s food delights the taste buds and dazzles the senses.
